about

"Ursula von Rydingsvard: Sculpture" showcased the internationally-renowned artist’s most significant sculptures. A distinctive and compelling voice in contemporary art for nearly forty years, von Rydingsvard is best known for creating large-scale, often monumental cedar sculptures that exude great physical and psychological power. Her signature abstract shapes refer to things in the real world - simple vessels, bowls, tools, and other objects - each revealing the mark of the human hand while also summoning natural forms and forces. This exhibition was organized by Helaine Posner, a guest curator, and The SculptureCenter in Long Island City, NY. This exhibition traveled to the DeCordova Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA and the Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami in addition to the SculptureCenter and MOCA Cleveland. This exhibition was generously underwritten by Toby Devan Lewis, and An Anonymous Donor.
