Luscious, visceral, saturated, repulsive, decadent, raw, alluring; These words only begin to describe Marylin Minter’s provocative paintings, photographs, and video work. One of the most adventurous and accomplished American artists working today, Minter challenges our perceptions of glamour and beauty. Her work in this exhibition was characterized by extreme close-ups of the body with a shocking but irresistible sensuality. Large in scale, with bold, luscious colors, Minter’s vivid paintings and photographs zeroed in on faces, mouths, or feet - glittery, makeup-laden eyes, glistening flesh, succulent mouths, lips, and tongues, jewel encrusted necklines, or muddy feet in designer heels sloshing through puddles. The focus here was on the female body: on beauty, fashion, glamour, sensuality, and desire - with its pleasures and dangers - all of which Minter’s paintings and photographs delivered in strong, visually seductive and almost palpable terms. "Orange Crush" was curated by Margo A. Crutchfield and was generously underwritten by Laura and Fred Bidwell, and Donna and Stewart Kohl.
